Yesterday I boiled a pot of kluski noodles that was filled nearly to the brim, and the spill stopper prevented it from boiling over, so it really does do what it says. The problem lies in when you go to test one of your noodles, or to otherwise view the contents of your pot. First of all, if you have your pot really full, it will sometimes boil over immediately when you remove the spill stopper. This can be remedied by perfecting the amount of heat you're using on the pot. Typically, my pots only boil over once and then settle down, but whatever temperature I was using the one time this happened to me must have been too high because the water was apparently in a constant state of boiling over. The problems lies in the fact that it's not convenient to lift it up and stir or peek at what your boiling. First of all you have to be careful when lifting it to prevent steam burns. Then you have to be careful about how you tilt the item because boiling hot water is dripping from all over. It's good for what it's meant to do but it's not like a normal lid that you can lift off and just set aside on the stove top. With this it's normally soaking wet so if you lay it down or it drips it kinda defeats the purpose of preventing a mess on your stove top. You can't just hold it by a handle in one hand like a typical lid while you give your food a quick stir either. This product does work and I would recommend it with the burn caution and dripping caution that I mentioned above. It's easy to clean and dishwasher safe which is a huge plus for me. |
