It doesn't have superfluous buttons, and it seems to defrost and re-heat evenly. But... The dial, which is simple enough to use, is much harder to use than a simple keypad. It's very sensitive, non-linear (meaning between 1 and 10 you can pick the exact number of seconds, after 10 you can only get to the nearest 5, after 1 minute, only the nearest 10, after 5 minutes, only the nearest 15) and it's always a guess how far to turn it. Turn too far, then adjust. Then adjust again. And maybe again. I always know what I want to set it for and I could touch "4" then "5" much faster than I can find ":45" on the dial. Why'd they fix something that wasn't broken? To set the power level, you have to press the Power Level button once for each 10% you want to go down. So if you want 90%, you press it once. If you want 20% to soften butter, you have to press it 8 times! Really? Why couldn't they use the dial for... | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Inverter TechnologyMoving Beyond Just "Heating Things Up"Many people just use their microwaves for making popcorn or warming up soup because most microwaves just have one temperature setting--high. Conventional microwave ovens might have a low-power setting, but this is achieved by "pulsing" the high-power setting on and off rather than by emitting a steady stream of low-powered energy. Panasonic's trailblazing Inverter technology delivers true, variable microwave power, which means even temperatures and consistent textures throughout the food being cooked. The consistent delivery of microwave energy allows delicate foods to simmer without the edges and surfaces overcooking, so foods have the look and taste you expect--without the wait. The Inverter microwave oven perfects the art of cooking, taking microwave cooking to a whole new level. You'll experience delicious food that better retains its color, nutrients, and flavor and that's easier and faster to prepare. Oh, and you can still make great popcorn. Single, Compact Power SupplyFurthermore, the Inverter power unit is smaller and lighter than conventional microwave circuitry (aka the heavy, enclosed side of the microwave), which allows for more interior space to fit that favorite casserole dish, without increasing the oven's overall exterior dimensions. Weighing just 36-4/5 pounds, the oven's roomy interior measures 18-1/2 inches long by 18-7/16 inches wide by 10-15/16 inches high, while its compact exterior measures 19-7/16 inches long by 23-7/8 inches wide by 14 inches high. Additional FeaturesOne-Touch Genius Sensor Cook and ReheatWith the touch of Panasonic's Sensor Cooking button, the microwave takes the guesswork out of creating a great meal, by automatically setting power levels and adjusting cooking or defrosting time. The sensor measures the amount of steam produced during cooking, and signals the microprocessor to calculate the remaining cooking time at the appropriate power level automatically. Menu Action Screen (multi-lingual)The Menu Action Screen is like having a chef to assist you in the kitchen. It scrolls step-by-step cooking instructions across the display, in a choice of English, Spanish, or French. Inverter Turbo DefrostPanasonic evolved the Turbo Defrost feature, which allows you to defrost foods even faster than previous Panasonic Auto Defrost. Panasonic Inverter Turbo Defrost technology is an advanced microwave sequencing system using the inverter continuous-power delivery method. Keep Warm FeatureA pulsing delivery of very low microwave power keeps food temperatures at a constant level--without overcooking. So, foods like stew, gravy, and desserts remain warm in the oven for up to 30 minutes after cooking. Clock/TimerTime-of-day clock and versatile timer provide exceptional convenience. Quick MinuteThe one-touch button allows you to set or add cooking time in 1-minute increments up to 10 minutes. Pop-Out DialWith a spin of the dial, the easy-to-use pop-out dial is a departure from the standard keypad found on most microwave ovens. Child-Safety LockFor safety, the oven's child safety lock prevents electronic operation (door still opens). Press Start three times to lock; press Stop/Reset three times to cancel. Other HighlightsThe oven also provides 10 power levels, three cooking stages, more/less control, a popcorn button, and delay start. Push-button controls and digital display for easy programming. Very large, excellent results! We have used Samsung and GE Profile microwaves, and this one is superior. It has enormous capacity. The interface is very convenient, although it takes a bit of getting used to because of the dial rather than a number pad. It is very powerful and heats quickly and very evenly. It comes with clear instructions. I have only one complaint about the interface, which is that the power setting does not display the power being used, so you have to remember what you programmed in (and hope that you didn't make a mistake because there's no feedback about what power is actually being used). The instructions could also be clearer about how to program multiple cook times -- the machine actually allow pre-programming of three time/power combinations, which is better than the two allowed by most machines. The inverter technology allow true differences in the power output. Most machines simply switch the microwave generator on and off proportionately.
