Keep Reading! I've never had the experience of using the original PowerPop, but like most of the reviewers here, I purchased this for under ten bucks at Wally World. (You should also buy your "concentrators" there; they are about two bucks for an eight-pack; I also find the W-Mart brand popcorn to be perfectly usable and it comes in a handy zip-loc-style bag.) Looking at the reviews of the older model, it appears that performance is HIGHLY microwave-dependent. Due to how microwaves cook in general, this does not surprise me. For the record, I use a 15-yr-old Sharp countertop microwave. After four uses (with oil), the "concentrator" disc that came with the unit is still usable; the number of unpopped kernels appears to slowly creep up as the disc goes through more use. I may soon try it without the disc to see how it does. The directions included are straightforward, and other than plopping in the disc, involve no... |

I LOVE popcorn and I make it nearly every day. The Presto Power Pop is my all time favorite popcorn maker. that includes and beats several fair ground style kettle poppers. I have owned a few of those in my home from time to time. I sold my last fair ground popper when I discovered the original Powerpop. When I saw this one, I knew I needed to try it and write a review. At unboxing: OK, feels like it is about the same weight of the two piece original popper. I like that it is all one molded piece, sealing in the metal portion of the popping base. This keeps that part from being damaged (some people have intentionally take them apart, thinking they should or just to clean them). The top does not seat as securely on the bowl as the original lid does. The original lid sits slightly down into and below the lip of the popping bowl. Makes me a little uncomfortable about what will happened when removing the corn from the... |
| Perfect for the price and you don't need the concentrators! I absolutely love this product. I was able to purchase this product at Walmart for $9.99. I wanted to be able to make popcorn at work but I didn't want to buy microwave popcorn due to cost and health risks. This bowl is perfect. I keep it in my desk drawer with a bag of kernels, and a small bottle of vegetable oil. I add about 1/3 cup of kernels and roughly 1 tablespoon of oil then microwave that for 2 minutes and 45 seconds. The popcorn comes out perfect every time. If you've done your research, this product uses "Presto Powercup Concentrators" which are small papery discs that fit in the bottom of the bowl to help "concentrate the microwaves" to the kernels. You are "supposed" to change this out every time you pop. Let me tell you that I HAVE NOT used any of the discs and my popcorn has been perfect every time. Now, I have not tried to pop corn without the use of oil. Happy Popping! |
