Found a schematic inside the case from the MFG (smart!) and checked all the switches, fuses and thermal cut off/thermostats up to the HV side and all were good. Magnetrons really can't be tested with guaranteed accuracy, but you can use an ohm meter to confirm they are definitely bad (IE: they have a dead short, high resistance or infinite (open) resistance = bad). A working mag will measure about 1 ohm, but this does not guarantee that it is good, only that it is "probably" good (some can have proper impedance but still not work). Note that the typical VOM meter cannot handle the high voltage side of a microwave. Be sure the unit is off and the HV capacitor is discharged or you could fry your meter (and yourself!). | Gotta Love it Paid $79 plus tax with shipping Works great Saved over $300 from Appliance Store Repair Guy We have a GE Advantium Oven if you are not familiar with them they are the best oven ot there. My wife and I love it ! We no longer use our oven. The Advantium system is a combination of microwave and UV lights. It cooks food 8X faster than a regular microwave and it browns the food just like an oven with the lights. Baked potatoes, Squash casseroles all brown nicely. Well it has been 10 years and it stopped working. The independent oven repair guy says the magnetron is out and it is $330 for the generic and $450 for the GE branded one. I got the number off of the part in the Advantium and bought it for $79 from this site. And it worked great!! They packaged it very well and shipped it on time. Thank you for saving us about $300. |
