The inverter technology cooks the food more evenly, if you set 50% power it actually sets 50% power, it doesn't cycle high power on/off to achieve 50% total power over the cook time you set (listen to your non-inverter microwave and you can hear it cycle the magnetron on/off during a non-100% cook cycle). Having a microwave that uses inverter technology will always be on the top of my "features it must have" list, and unfortunately Panasonic is the only company offering that feature. The old microwave finally broke down on me, saw this one at Costco and picked it up. I had just remodeled the kitchen with stainless steel appliances so thought cool, now have the same great microwave and it matches up color-wise and it's the same size and almost the same power wattage.
