These have an important design defect: the internal flange on which the safety switches are attached, and into which the door locks engage, is not strong enough not to flex under the (significant) pressure of the opening and closing of the door. Over time (likely about a month after your warranty expires), this flange will bend enough that the oven stops working, because one or more of the safety switches no longer engages. This means the oven may appear to turn on, but no microwaves (heating), or it may act as though the door isn't closed. For most people, this means you throw the oven away, as it appears to simply be "broken". You can buy a set of security Torx bits and open the oven up (being careful not to kill yourself on the high-voltage section) and bend the flange back, but it will deform again shortly. This design flaw has existed in Panasonic ovens for at least 5 years, and they have not corrected it... |

I am in complete agreement with other reviews. Here is a company with a great reputation putting out a product with an obvious design flaw! This flaw has existed for years and they have done nothing to remedy it. The unit looks great, works great, but has a weak door latch that is destroying their entire microwave reputation. Until this unit's door latch is redesigned I could never recommend this product for anyone. After less than two years my beautiful unit is unusable and not repairable. Shame on a company for being advised and advised of this problem and continue to upgrade their products without fixing its only flaw!!! I am now looking for a microwave WITH the wonderful inverter technology but created by a different manufacturer. Love the 2.2 cu ft and 1250 watts counter top but without it breaking in just a short time. |
| Bought this unit 8/2012. It lasted until 12/2014. ... Bought this unit 8/2012. It lasted until 12/2014. 28 months doesn't cut it. Over time, both the button to open the door and the latches on the door required increasing force to operate them. Eventually, the latches on the door would no longer trip the safety switch that prevents the microwave from operating while the door is open. So the microwave just quit working. |
